SBSA Umpiring Course

April 18, 2019

SBSA conducted its first Umpiring Course since a few years ago on 14 April 2019. The course was well received with a total number of 37 participants.

The course which covered 3 portions - theory, fitness and practical -  was conducted by 3 local SCA certified umpires – Albert Chia, Marcus Yeo and Ahmad Masran. SBSA Umpire-in-Chief(UIC), Thong Wei Mun, was also on deck to provide guidance and assistance to the participants.

The course began on time with the theory aspect being presented and sufficiently supplemented by the present umpires’ own experiences in the field.

The session was interactive and the participants eager to gain as much knowledge as they could from their trainers.

The theory portion concluded with the participants facing the pressure of a 50-question test paper which had to be completed in under 45 minutes.

Participants were then put through a 3-series fitness test at SSI gymnasium to determine their fitness levels before the umpires wrapped up the first half of the day and all had their lunch.

A 3-hour practical session followed directly after with the participants briefed on the mechanics and differences between officiating at the plate and base.

After an hour of practice, participants were up for evaluation with the 3 trainer umpires and UIC ensuring all crucial elements such as positioning, distance, timing, correct signals and stance were being properly executed/administered.

The course was concluded in the late afternoon with each participant being certified for their attendance. They will be notified of their results for the theory test and practical evaluation later on.

CONGRATULATIONS – U16 & U19 MEN’S TEAMS WIN GOLD IN CMU OPEN 2018

January 06, 2019

The U16 and U19 Men’s teams started the new year with a great win in the recently concluded Chiang Mai University Open with both teams achieving Champions for their respective categories.

The U16 team played a total of 7 games in the Men’s Minor category, beating HCI 5-3 (7 innings) in the Grand Final after losing to them earlier 2-3 in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the U19 team played a total of 6 games in the Men’s Major category, beating Bishan United 4-3 (8 innings) in a nail-biting tie-breaker Grand Final game, after losing to them 1-2 and 3-8 in the earlier match-ups.

It was also a big win for Singapore Softball as the top two teams for each division came from Singapore.

The 8-day trip was an eye-opening and refreshing experience for all players, who came from various backgrounds, and schools, with different levels of international experience. The team also bonded well while achieving its goal of winning the tournament, with players improving drastically from game to game.

The team would like to thank all who have played a part in making the trip a success – the association, coaches, managers, parents, and the softball community for their continuous support.

Thank you and happy new year!

CoachSG Newsletter

February 25, 2018

Dear Coaches,

February marks the start of the National Schools Games (NSG) season, and we wish all our coaches the very best as you guide your athletes on a pursuit of excellence, character building, and friendship. For many of your athletes, the NSG is a defining experience for their relationship with their chosen sport. The coach of a team is arguably the strongest influence a youth athlete may have in his life, and we recognise the responsibility that lies on a coach’s shoulders. That being said, we are encouraged by the positive attitude many of our coaches have shown in embracing their roles not just as skill instructors, but mentors and leaders of life as well.

We are here to support all our coaches should you need a hand. All the best once again for the NSG, and we look forward to seeing you and your athletes in action!

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today unveiled the final 2017 standings in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings Presented by ENEOS, which weigh a country's National Team performance (from U-12 to Professional) in WBSC-sanctioned international competitions over a four-year period (2014-2017).

Japan remains the top-ranked nation for a third straight year, a position held since November 2014. USA Baseball squads, however, were the most successful in 2017, sweeping the world championships -- the U-12 Baseball World Cup, U-18 Baseball World Cup and World Baseball Classic -- to earn a record high 2,127 annual ranking points.

Members of Baseball Federation of Asia are ranked as follows:
22 China (-4), 26 Pakistan (-2), 31 Hong Kong (-5), 38 Thailand (-3), 40 Philippines (-6), 47 Indonesia (+1), 52 Sri Lanka (-), 55 Iran (-1), 58 Mongolia (-2), 63 India (-3), 68 Singapore (-2), 71 Iraq (-5) and 73 Nepal (new).  Falling out of the World Rankings in 2017 are Afghanistan, Malaysia and Myanmar.

The official 2018 international baseball calendar features two world championships that will have the biggest impact on this year's men's baseball world rankings: the U-15 Baseball World Cup (10-19 Aug.) in Panama City, Panama, and the U-23 Baseball World Cup (19-28 Oct.) in Managua, Nicaragua.

The Top 12 nations in the 2018 end-of-the-year WBSC Baseball World Rankings will qualify for the WBSC Premier12 2019, the men's professional baseball National Team global championship and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 qualifier.
