The Singapore Baseball and Softball Association (SBSA) is pleased to announce the release of the selection policy and criteria for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, scheduled to take place from 7 to 19 December 2025 in Thailand. This comprehensive policy outlines the standards and procedures for selecting athletes to represent Singapore in baseball5, baseball, men's and women's softball at the upcoming Games.
Key Highlights of the Selection Policy:
Athlete Eligibility: Candidates must be Singapore citizens, holding a valid Singapore passport with at least six months' validity. Athletes over 22 years old should not possess dual citizenship at the time of nomination. Additionally, athletes must be active members of the High Performance, Elite, or Elite Developmental Training Teams, having completed a minimum of nine months in one of these teams prior to selection.
Selection Criteria: The policy emphasises team performance, requiring teams to be ranked at least third among SEA Games countries. Individual athletes who narrowly miss qualifying standards but demonstrate potential to meet or exceed them by the Games are also considered. Achievements must be from international competitions sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) or relevant regional bodies, occurring between 1 October 2024 to 5 September 2025, which is 2 weeks before the Entry by Name deadline on 19 September 2025 (subject to the final confirmation by SEA Games Organiser).
Overriding Selection Criteria: Athletes must be free from injuries that could impede training or competition. A strong training ethic, good conduct, and the ability to foster a positive team environment are essential. Commitment to training schedules and adherence to the athlete's agreement are also critical factors.
Extenuating Circumstances: The selection committee may consider factors such as injury, illness, equipment failure, travel delays, or bereavement that might have affected an athlete's ability to compete or attend required events.
Appeal Process: Athletes not selected have the right to appeal within 72 hours of the announcement. An Appeal Committee, separate from the Selection Committee, will review such cases. A fee of SGD 200 is required to file an appeal, refundable if the appeal is successful.
The SBSA is committed to a transparent and fair selection process, ensuring that Singapore fields the most qualified and prepared athletes for the SEA Games. Athletes and stakeholders are encouraged to review the detailed selection policy to understand the criteria and processes involved.
